Build
Your Shot.
Great shooters don't start with range. They start with a great foundation. This week we're building feet, balance, hand placement, rhythm and finish.
Build It From The Ground Up.
Stay close enough to the basket to shoot with good form. Each day adds a new layer — from mechanics to footwork, movement, decisions and competition.
Start close. We're building quality before distance.
- Set your feet and get balanced.
- Get the ball shot-ready.
- Eyes on your target.
- Shoot with smooth rhythm.
- Hold your finish until the ball reaches the rim.
Connect Week 1 footwork to your shot.
- 20 shots: toss → catch → jump stop → shoot.
- 20 shots: toss → catch → 1-2 step → shoot.
- Stay balanced on every catch.
- Hold your finish.
Now we're moving before the catch.
- Choose five close-range shooting spots.
- Start 3–5 steps away.
- Move to the spot.
- Catch or toss to yourself.
- Organize your feet and shoot.
Add a decision before the shot.
- Place two markers several feet apart.
- Start between them.
- Have a parent or partner call LEFT or RIGHT.
- Move to that marker.
- Get your feet organized and shoot.
It's YOU vs. YOU. Set up five spots at a range where you can shoot with good form.
- Round 1: take five shots from each of five spots.
- Record how many you make out of 25.
- Rest and reset.
- Round 2: shoot the same 25 shots.
- Can you beat your first score?
The Shooting Combo
Ready for another layer? Combine your footwork, ball movement and shooting into one game-like sequence.
10 reps going right + 10 reps going left.
SWISH
Grab a parent, sibling or friend. Take turns choosing a shooting spot. Keep the range appropriate so everybody can shoot with good form.
Make it = 1 point.
Miss it = 0 points.
First player to 5 points wins.
FOUNDATION RULE: Bad balance doesn't count — even if the shot goes in!
Show Your Coach.
When you come back to Foundation Academy, be ready to show the shooting foundation you've been building all week.
